The news from Darfur is not good. I have been asked by HelpAge International to investigate the options for extending their work in Sudan to Darfur. I will be going to el-Geneina in West Darfur and spending some weeks there and in Khartoum. HelpAge International's website can be found at www.helpage.org

I am off to Khartoum for a few weeks to do a feasibility study for the Rift Valley Institute and Unicef. The study will look into the possibility of extending the RVI's research into abductions into the government controlled towns of Wau and Aweil and possibly into Darfur, Kordofan and Khartoum. I am looking forward to visiting Wau and Aweil for the first time. Even though I have spent years within a few miles of the towns, I have not been able to enter them from the SPLM areas.
